President on the Run

Granger Whitelaw: My Weekly Thoughts

And so it begins – the political banter and non-stop commercials 24 hours a day – all to persuade us that we should vote for XYZ candidate but don’t vote for this other guy – he will ruin the country!

So my blog this week is not a story, rhyme, message, nor a grain of wisdom I have stumbled upon in my life… But a question…

Does anyone REALLY believe in any politicians any more, or the process to elect them?

Now I am NOT one to get into a political debate – frankly, it annoys the hell out of me when I am at a dinner party or social setting and the subject comes up. Even on Facebook it takes the same immediate turn. “Well, look at what Bush did” “ Obama is the worst” – blah blah blah… (Where is Ronald Reagan when you need him)?!

The conversation always seems to start off innocent enough, but always turns into finger pointing and blame. Didn’t we learn in kindergarten that finger pointing and blame are not the way to get along on the playground? Most of the facts I hear either have no real basis in reality, or have been so mangled – It’s stuff someone overheard their dad say, their boss mention, or read in a blog (like this one..hahahaaa) that they can barely remember it, or mix up important information – “Iran, or was it Iraq…I don’t know—you know what I mean…blah blah…get me a drink please..”.

Maybe I should run for President? Granger Whitelaw is a good name – it’s Hollywood enough. I have plenty of great stuff I have done and a fair amount of screw-ups to give the other side fodder. I used to talk to some of my high school friends about it and they loved the idea. President Granger Brewster Whitelaw – sounds cool. Then we could all fly around in Air Force one, and go to really cool parties – make a bunch of promises we know we won’t keep – and get all the tax payers to foot the bill ! DAMN! How’d I miss that shuffle? Well – maybe someday.

Don’t get me wrong, politicians can play an important ROLE in society – but they ARE NOT SOCIETY. Most politicians do not have their finger on the pulse of America, as they’ve been sucked into the D.C. political process – it just twists them before they know it. It’s a shame really, good people get put in a meat grinder with some ‘pink additive’ and it’s just another plain hamburger without the secret sauce.

The worst part of it – The friggin TV News shows that will talk about it on EVERY channel for the next 6 months. Really? 24 hours a day? Are these guys really that complex? Is there really THAT much to discuss? Can’t we spend a few thousand of those hours on real issues that are not opinion based or party driven, like how to help our local communities in need, and support the charities that are doing good work. Just think if we focused that much attention on real things that can drive growth in this country, jobs, helping rebuild America – instead of which guy had dinner with what celebrity, or played golf with whom at this resort?!

So, I lose – the commercials have already started about Bain this, and Islamic supporting speech that – I think I might just have to block all the political news channels for the next 8 months…or get rid of the thing all together.

It’s really sad…I am rambling but you know I am right. I hear it all the time – but what can we do? We are stuck in a system that is broken and the right guy/girl will never run for office – who in their right mind would? That speaks volumes alone.

Best Wishes,

Granger Whitelaw

  1. As once said “the greatest punishment for good men is to be ruled by bad men”, I forgot who wrote this one but credits to him if you know him. Politics are really a big business as what they said and it really annoys me too when politics comes to topic in the middle of fun or even in dining area.

  2. I like the main question of this blog. Well, for me, I think I still believe some people in politics though there are still a little part me that don’t 100% trust on them. I know there are still people who are willing to give their life for their country.

  3. Politics is just so plain dangerous and anyone who enters it will treat life as always a race. I would never want to enter politics since it will give you much stress.

  4. Well, I love the idea President Granger Brewster Whitelaw also ha ha sounds cool and really fits to the job. Then maybe you could then make a commercial to the TV and then make a great debate to your competitors. Anyway, I still believe you can be if you want though I know you are not into politics

  5. I enjoy reading this and I really like this line “the political banter and non-stop commercials 24 hours a day” and I can totally relate to this. I think the politician that we should vote is the one that doesn’t have commercials and also the one that is not rich enough that maybe can get something to our community.

  6. I think I have to answer this one “Does anyone REALLY believe in any politicians any more, or the process to elect them?”, I think I still believe in some politicians and those politicians are I think have heart to help their people, though I know most of the politicians are opposite to that one. Politicans have bad image to all of us and we can’t really put a trust on them easily since we have encountered and experienced many not good things about former politicians on things that they have done to us or government.

  7. I really like the thought of you running for a president. I think it’s a great idea, well you are a big man and many knows you and I think you have the potential ha ha ha I am literally laughing at this. Anyway thank you for sharing this one. Have a great day and please keep posting new article.

  8. I know you’re right about this “It’s really sad…I am rambling but you know I am right. I hear it all the time – but what can we do? We are stuck in a system that is broken and the right guy/girl will never run for office”, politics is just so very messy and full of chaosness and we can’t do anything about it we can’t control it. Politics is not as good as its name.

  9. I totally get this “all to persuade us that we should vote for XYZ candidate but don’t vote for this other guy – he will ruin the country!”, I am sick and tired of commercials of politicians and I am sick of people who vote those politicians. We can’t really say who is the right person but we know the person that might corrupt and just use the power in the wrong way.

  10. I think this is what they say about the pusnishment of the good guy who is not using their skills and goodness in leading the society “We are stuck in a system that is broken and the right guy/girl will never run for office”, many should go to votation and really vote for a right person that can lead us not just into a good country but each of us will have a good life also.

  11. Based on my observation, nowadays, education is not that important in politics. Well, its because, no matter how there good in school they still do something stupid in there position. Being in the low class doesn’t gave opportunity to those people who are not rich. Politics is for rich, you cannot easily join in politics if you do not have enough money for your campaign. Most of the politician spent half a million or more than just for the campaign, why would they spend all there money for this? well its because if they will seat in a higher position they will gain more than, than they invest.

  12. Yeah! I totally relate you bro “Now I am NOT one to get into a political debate”, political debates are just annoying things that the running people always do. I mean what about we don’t talk about the negative things on each side and negative issues on each side. I think pointing fingers to your opponents on their mistakes won’t create a better community.

  13. Not kindergarten literally “didn’t we learn in kindergarten that finger pointing and blame are not the way to get along on the playground?” but this is true. There are no reason that will satisfy to this act, pointing finger is just a very arrogant thing to do and only those arrogant people can do this. I believe that we should make a change in our community for the better.

  14. Nobody can prevent or stop political stuffs “t’s really sad…I am rambling but you know I am right. I hear it all the time – but what can we do? We are stuck in a system that is broken”. I really agree with you telling us that, our system really is uncontrollable. If only people will stop being political minded and stop those things that does not really give a good result to our community.

  15. Leaders are born they say but some that are born leaders don’t want to be a leader , instead they want to live on their own and not much into social life, it is something that is not good but they are not to blame because each of us have freedom however we should select leader that is reliable and also a a leader that is a good background

  16. Yes and absolutely “I am rambling but you know I am right. I hear it all the time – but what can we do? We are stuck in a system that is broken and the right guy/girl will never run for office , we can never really trust anyone because most of the people who run for position in the government is just a good and kind hearted people before they are being elected.

  17. This line is really literally true “Most politicians do not have their finger on the pulse of America, as they’ve been sucked into the D.C. political process – it just twists them before they know it.”, politicians are really just like that and we can’t really give much of a trust in our self to them since it’s very dangerous to do that and you don’t know what will happen next.

  18. I know you are not the type of man that runs on an election and making things just to win an election and making bad things just for his goodness in politics, but I think you can run and I think you have the potential because as what I have observed in you, you are a good man, a good businessman and a good father on your children and I think that is just a fundamental and basic thing that a politician must have.

  19. Politics for me is the dirtiest profession, well maybe it’s because you don’t know who are the people that you must trust. Even the cleanness person who will enter politics can make his good image bad. Negative campaigning is very rampant, someone will try to win an advantage be referring to negative aspects of an opponent or of a policy rather than emphasizing one’s own positive attributes. Some research suggest negative campaigning is the norm in all political venues, mitigated only by the dynamics of a particular contest.

  20. It is so funny because this is what is also happening in my place right now, next month will be the voting month and you could really imagine what is really happening, posters advertisements etc. all are being used by politicians and you can’t really choose and select who is really the good guy and who are the guys that should not be voted.

  21. What a coincidence ha ha lol, we are having an election here too and I can totally can relate to you ha ha with some of your lines here. I enjoyed a lot reading some funny things that you wrote on here. I am an aspiring blogger and though I have some issues in some wrong and mistakes in grammar but I am slowly working on it.

  22. I surely can relate to this “The conversation always seems to start off innocent enough, but always turns into finger pointing and blame”, in my country this is not new actually. I am just an ordinary person but I can actually observe these kind of things in my place and surroundings. I don’t have a plan on being a politician but for me if I will run, I will really devote myself into working for the people and nothing else. I hate politicians who are just good in face when at elections period and it is really irritating when you can’t even contact them or talk to them personally when they have already elected and I know you know what I mean because most of the politicians are like that and it is most common on third world problems. I am glad to read such wonderful article.

  23. Since in one website it is stated there that an election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has operated since the 17th century. Elections may fill offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. Election for me is just so violent and I know not only in my place but also to all of the rest of the countries around the world. All people running for the positions in the government are so violent. I never experience having a very peaceful election, an election where the candidates are respecting each other. People always want power and always want fame.

  24. Last week is our local election here in our country, yesterday was the proclamation of the winners and next month probably the officials will start their 3 years of service to the people. What amazed me to this election was even though some officials pay for their wins, there are still some citizen who never let there votes sold. And now I’m pretty sure that election have change here in our country.
