Homecoming Rivalry

You can feel the excitment and anticipation everywhere – its Homecoming weekend and the big game against your rival team! The PTA has been preparing for months and the kids have decorated the school. The buzz is all around campus – Let’s win the trophy – we gotta win win win!

I’m off this morning to my sons boarding school to watch the oldest prep-school football rivalry in New Jersey, PEDDIE vs. BLAIR ! Today there are team matches in Swimming, Cross Country, Field Hockey and of course, FOOTBALL!!! Each game counts towards 1 point and the winner at the end of the day gets the Trophy, the Potter-Kelley Cup, to take home until next year. The first team to win a point was my sons JV football team in a last minute catch in the end zone. WOW! and so it begins.

Last night under a Full Moon they had the annual Pep Rally and then a huge Bonfire. I can remember when I went to my first pep rally in 7th grade for our Upper School team at St. Louis Country Day School and our RAMS! It was an amazing night filled with smiling faces, people wrapped in scarves and warm coats with our school colors cheering and signing. The bonfire was SO COOL and the crackling of a 15 ft towering inferno with kids running around like Indians of the Old West. Some things never leave your memory, thankfully this is one of them.

So I’m off to School – I’m wearing My Blue & Gold – Ready to cheer for the team. I’m actually really excited, its amazing how all those old memories start to flow again and it gets your blood going. GO PEDDIE !!

  1. I am not familiar with the teams but I think that was really a big event since both are long time rivals. Your son must be so good in playing football and you must be proud seeing him hit the first goal, that would be a pride for us parents seeing our child like that.

  2. Any rivalry is really exciting and full of thrill. They say that the games in life will be much boring if you don’t have rivals and I guess it is true at others point of view. Just like those rivals above I believe that they had played very well on that game.

  3. Wow! By reading it I want to have a camp now with my friends or maybe watch Football with my friends. I like bonfire, you can really see the coolness of it and feel the warm of its art.

  4. Wow, the game looks interesting and very intriguing and how I wish I have watched the game. So who won the game? I know both teams are good and really deserves to win but that cannot happen because there must only be one winner, so who won the game? I am a very athletic person though I am not athlete. I watch any type of sports but the sports that I most like is football or what they call soccer.

  5. “Last night under a Full Moon they had the annual Pep Rally and then a huge Bonfire. I can remember when I went to my first pep rally in 7th grade for our Upper School team at St. Louis Country Day School and our RAMS”, what a coincidence last night also was a full moon and you can really see the beauty of the moon by watching it carefully and the big is really over whelming. It’s good to look at the moon when it’s full.

  6. The excitement and the fun are really visible to anyone when the month of this game is on its climax. You can’t really blame people for experiencing so much excitement and include me to those people of course, you can’t blame them because you are really excited to watch on a game that is really great and a number one sport in your country and I think that is really a good thing living on this country.

  7. Rivalry is such a word or a term use for competition or let us say a competiting word. They say that in order for one to become stronger, one must have a rival so that he can then have a measure for his strength or a strength that he has accomplished or gain. You have here a great competition between the two rivals and I think both will be showing their best skills.

  8. I know everyone have prepared for this game because this is a game that involves rivalry and that is what makes the game more exciting and more entertaining. It’s just like a basketball game and a National Basketball Association game or NBA where the teams are Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls, the teams that I think has the most and greatest rivalry of all time in National Basketball Association.

  9. Rivalry is an entertaining thing at makes each other stronger “When I started writing, I did have some idealised notion of my dad as a writer. But I have less and less of a literary rivalry with him as I’ve gone on. I certainly don’t feel I need his approval, although maybe that’s because I’m confident that I’ve got it.
-Paul Theroux “, The two teams are really good and I hope they both will become stronger because that’s what I expected on them.

  10. I can sense something here between the two rivals. In my place too there is a rivalry that is happening and it is my school versus the other school. Both schools are very competitive and I think the rivalry is almost 100 years live in the place since it’s a never ending competition between the two schools but the good part is that though there is a competition, both the two schools have sportmanship on them.

  11. Even in my place and not the certain team just like on your article we can still feel also this “You can feel the excitment and anticipation everywhere” when it comes to a game that the two teams are very rival and very competitive to each other and very patriotic to its team. In my place the game is not american football but the match is a basketball game.

  12. I like your homecoming rivalry. I bet the two teams are being rival for many years already judging by the reactions of the other bloggers here. I am listening and watching a good music video right now, yeah it does not make sense with this article but I am trying to convince you guys to just stay for now on the stressful life of yours.

  13. Wow I can really sense how intense was the game played on each sport and category. I remember when me and my cousin went to a baseball match and everybody on our near side is cheering for the other team and we were like “what can we do now?” I mean I don’t know id we still have to cheer for our team because we are surrounded by fans of other team LOL XD.

  14. The game maybe forgotten but the feelings won’t be “I’m wearing My Blue & Gold – Ready to cheer for the team. I’m actually really excited, its amazing how all those old memories start to flow again and it gets your blood going. GO PEDDIE !!, you really cheered and that is what it is all about watching the game and supporting your team.

  15. To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it to the more fit for its prime function of looking forward. Homecoming means coming home to what is in your heart. School is your second home, it’s a place where you grow up wanting to leave and grow old wanting to get back to. I’m looking forward for our next homecoming.
